Panamanian lawyer Ramon Fonseca, one of the two founders of the law firm at the heart of the “Panama Papers”, died Thursday May 9 while awaiting his trial in the context of this global scandal which erupted in 2016 .

The information arrived this Thursday through Guillermina Mc Donald, a lawyer of the old society at the center of the scandal of “Panama Papers”having revealed how celebrities around the world hid their money from the taxman.
Ramon Fonseca, 71, died in a hospital in the capital of Panama, Guillermina McDonald said, without specifying the causes of death.
During the trial, which ended on April 19, the maximum sentence for money laundering – 12 years in prison – was requested against Ramon Fonseca and Jürgen Mossack, the two founders of the Mossack Fonseca law firm. The court had to deliver its judgment within 30 days.
“ Any legal process carries an enormous burden for a person who is accused, and even more so in the circumstances in which this process took place “, said Ramon Fonseca’s lawyer, Daika Indira Levy, after confirming her client’s death.
