A business in the Verdun district of Montreal was the target of an arson attack overnight from Sunday to Monday. Thanks to the rapid intervention of the police, the damage was minor and there were no injuries.

Around 1:15 a.m., emergency services received a call reporting that an individual appeared to be “setting fire” to a business located at the intersection of Verdun and Argyle streets.

“When the police arrived on the scene, they put out an initial fire inside the business with a fire extinguisher,” said officer Caroline Chèvrefils, who is a spokesperson for the City Police Department. of Montreal (SPVM), Monday morning.

“According to initial information, the suspects broke the window of the front door of the business and set fire inside the business and then fled before the police arrived,” she added. .

Mme Chèvrefils noted that no incendiary object was found at the scene, but that traces of accelerant were spotted.

Damage to the business was minor and no one was injured.

The investigation was transferred to the SPVM’s arson module. Investigators will, among other things, check whether nearby security cameras have captured anything of interest.

The SPVM reported no arrests in this case early Monday.
