Vietnam – Brazil: an important milestone towards a new height in bilateral relations

Brasilia (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil recently celebrated in Brasilia the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (May 8, 1989), the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory and the 134th anniversary of the birth of President Ho Chi Minh.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Bui Van Nghi highlighted that Brazil is the largest economy in the region and Vietnam’s largest trading partner in South America.

He affirmed that 2024 is a very important year where Vietnam and Brazil are determined to take the relations between the two countries to a new height.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese diplomat also sent his condolences to the representative of the authorities of the State of Rio Grande do Sul for the loss of human lives and property caused by the historic flood suffered by this State, causing nearly 90 deaths. , 130 missing and 150,000 homeless.

For his part, Brazilian Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ignacio Arruda, also president of the Brazil-Vietnam Friendship Association (ABRAVIET), affirmed that 2024 is an important milestone for two countries organize activities to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the implementation of agreements, commitments and increased coordination in multilateral forums, especially with the upcoming presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the G20 summit, at the invitation of Brazilian President Lula da Silva.
