Llast night, a violent fire broke out in an apartment building in the Brussels municipality of Anderlecht. The occupant of an apartment was seriously asphyxiated by smoke and was taken to hospital in an alarming condition. Four domestic animals did not survive the fire, say Brussels firefighters.

The fire broke out around 2:10 a.m. on the fourth floor of a building of 12 apartments, avenue Victor Olivier in Anderlecht. When firefighters arrived, they found that the fire had already caused a lot of smoke.

“We attacked the fire from the outside and, after forcing the armored entrance door of the apartment in question, also from the inside,” said Walter Derieuw, fire brigade spokesman. “During search and rescue operations, an unconscious woman was found in the bedroom. The victim was resuscitated on site, intubated and ventilated, then transferred to the Neder-over-Heembeek military hospital. His condition is alarming. »

The building was partially evacuated and the evacuated residents were examined by the attending physician, but none of them had to be transferred to hospital. “Unfortunately, four animals remained in the fire,” continues the spokesperson. “It’s about three cats and a rabbit. The origin of the fire remains to be determined. After ventilation and checking for the presence of CO, the other apartments were vacated.”
