Since his birth four years ago, little Paul Crolard, who lives in Dinard (Ille-et-Vilaine), has suffered from a severe form of epidermolysis bullosa, a rare genetic disease which affects the skin and mucous membranes. “The slightest overheating causes his skin to peel off, because there is no normal production of collagen,” explains Marie, his mother.

Pain comparable to that of severe burn victims

In Paul’s case, “we more generally speak of a butterfly child, because his skin is as fragile as a butterfly’s wings. The pain that my son experiences daily is most often compared to that of severe burn victims,” she says.

“To date, there is still no treatment for epidermolysis bullosa, other than daily treatment with ointments and dressings. We hope that thanks to the Telethon, of which Paul will be one of the five ambassadors this year, research will advance in this area. »

Who wants to collect for the Telethon?

The Telethon will take place this year on November 29 and 30, 2024. In Ille-et-Vilaine, André Guyomard, coordinator of the Telethon, launched an initial call to associations and companies who wish to take part in fundraising.

Advancing medical research

“Last year, €93 million was collected nationally, including €105,868 across Ille-et-Vilaine,” recalls André Guyomard. “We have selected five ambassador families to talk about the Telethon and the results obtained for some, thanks to medical research. This is the case for Tim, 26 years old, who sees the disease recede in his eyesight or for Sacha, 8 years old, suffering from an illness which destroys his muscles and who can climb stairs again. »
