Toulouse. Middle finger, vehicle… What we know about the attempted attack on the firefighters

But what happened? At the end of the day, Tuesday May 7, 2024, around 6 p.m., firefighters responded to an accident on the Toulouse ring road, near the Sesquières interchange, involving three cars.

But in the middle of the intervention, the emergency services were victims of a attempted assault by vehicle who rushed at them. In a press release, the firefighters provide details.

A fast-moving tow truck

During their intervention, the firefighters were therefore in the presence of an accident involving three vehicles. In order to secure the victims and intervention personnel (firefighters, police, DIRSO, etc.), a team has set up markings.

Middle finger to firefighters

Thinking that this tow truck was coming to the scene of the intervention in order to assist the emergency services and recover an damaged vehicle, the firefighter signals him to slow down and gives the order to lift part of the marking.

But the emergency services quickly understood that the vehicle was not going to slow down and that it was not going to move away. The three firefighters then move aside “in extremis and avoid the vehicle”. The driver will finish his journey straight ahead, then turn to the left, carrying a cone and a warning triangle on his route. “In passing, he gives the firefighters the finger,” the emergency services added in their press release.

The SDIS31 “strongly” condemns

The three firefighters filed a complaint on the evening of Tuesday May 7 with the support of the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of Haute-Garonne (SDIS31).

The SDIS31 strongly deplores the dangerous behavior of individuals putting the lives of other road users at risk as well as that of firefighters engaged to rescue victims of an accident. The SDIS31 strongly condemns this inappropriate and thoughtless behavior, the consequences of which can be serious.

The firefighters already denounced an attack on one of them which took place in Fenouillet, Monday May 6.
