the essential
An explosion destroyed a residence on the night of Tuesday May 7 to Wednesday May 8, miraculously leaving only one seriously injured, whose life was in danger.

Some believed it was a bombing, others had the impression of reliving a war scene… It was none of that, other than a violent explosion, probably caused by a gas leak, even if the investigation will have to officially establish it.

It was 4:30 a.m. in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday in Puilboreau, a town bordering La Rochelle, in Charente-Maritime, when a huge crash made the 44 residents of a residence made up of social housing fear the worst. On the third and last floor of one of the buildings, a devastating explosion has just devastated the place, causing all the walls to fly into dust, even breaking the windows of the residence for the elderly on the other side of the road.

The occupant of the apartment seriously injured

According to our colleagues at South West, which relays the information, the explosion apparently occurred in the apartment of a 56-year-old man, the only seriously injured person in the incident, by a miracle. His life was nevertheless in danger and he was urgently airlifted to Poitiers University Hospital. Two minor injuries have simply been reported among the other residents.

The intensity of the explosion nevertheless made the occupants of the residence fear the worst, who believed that a missile had fallen on their heads, according to testimonies collected by the local newspaper.

While waiting for their rehousing by their landlord, they took place in a gymnasium in the city. Given the extent of the damage, they are not close to returning to their apartments.
