OLYMPIC GAMES – Marseille at the heart of the Paris 2024 Games. This Wednesday, May 8, the Belem which carries the Olympic flame enters the port of the Phocaean city after a journey of around ten days from Greece. The city has planned many festivities to welcome the torch.

The three-masted ship is due to arrive at 11 a.m. in the northern harbor of Marseille. He will parade until 5 p.m. along the coast, towards the South harbor as far as Maïre ​​Island. Then it will go back towards the North passing through the Frioul Islands. It will be accompanied by 1024 local boats. The Belem will dock at the Old Port at the end of the day.

The show will not only be on the sea, since many activities are planned throughout the day on land. In the North harbor several workshops will take place: jousting, light sails, with pleasure boats, rowing…

On the south side, workshops are organized with traditional sails and boats from the French Overseas Territories, for example. At the same time, the tenor Naestro will perform the Marseillaise a cappella, and at 7:30 p.m. the official musical theme of the Paris 2024 Games will be revealed, performed by the Marseille National Orchestra from the Palais du Pharo. The flame welcoming ceremony can then begin.

At 7:40 p.m., Florent Manaudou, first torchbearer on French soil, will grab the flame from the Belem and then set off before lighting the cauldron. At 9 p.m., the Alonzo and Soprano concert will begin in the Old Port. 45,000 people will be able to attend the two-hour show, free of charge.
