An explosion left several injured during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, near a residence for the elderly in Puilboreau, near La Rochelle. The explosion was heard in a large part of La Rochelle a little after 4:30 a.m. The affected building, located rue des Fleneaux, in Puilboreau, was very badly damaged, as evidenced by the photos from France Bleu La Rochelle. Other neighboring buildings, notably the Domitys senior residence, also suffered damage, with windows having been torn out.
The firefighters deployed significant resources, including two large ladders. They also used drones to assess the damage throughout the neighborhood. The death toll was one seriously injured and two lightly injured. Thirty other people had to be taken care of in a nearby village hall. The explosion took place near the Beaulieu commercial area, in Puilboreau, not very far from Leroy Merlin.
