This year, the championships of the future are taking place in Alsace, in Altkirch (Haut-Rhin). A thousand young runners compete for the titles of champions of France during this national competition. The women’s and men’s road races will take place from Thursday May 9 to Sunday May 12 in the capital of Sundgau and its neighboring villages.

During this national meeting, no less than 13 titles are awarded. “For me, it’s a goal, it’s what I trained for all winter, says Marianne Buchert, runner for the Grand Est selection. It’s the event that matters the most to me in the season.”

The best competitors dream of being spotted by a team and becoming professional cyclists, but first, they must confront a demanding circuit. The route is tough. In urban areas, the turns follow one another and the climbs follow one another. The Roggenberg hill is the most formidable with its long climb of 16% in altitude.

The Haut-Rhin has already seen several pelotons of cyclists pass through, notably in 1983 in Wintzenheim or in 1975 in Kaysersberg, with the French championships of the future. The area is well known to professional cyclists, such as Hugo Hofstetter, Antoine Raugel and Axel Zinglé, all of Alsatian origin. The south of Alsace hopes to benefit from this event, with possible consequences.

Sundgauvian organizers initially hoped to host the professional championships, which never took place in our region. For the organizers, the championships of the future are a springboard. “The Federation told us to try our hand at the French championships of the future, and why not the elite French championships, we hope by 2026”, declares Antoine Geyer, president of the organizing committee.

From Thursday May 9, thrill to the rhythm of the championships of the future of road cycling live, with the U17 men’s race starting at 10 a.m., then at 2:30 p.m. for the U15 and U17 women’s race. The cadets will compete on Saturday, May 11 from 10:30 a.m. for the U23 women’s road race, and at 4 p.m. for the men, then the hopefuls will be on the circuit this Sunday, May 12 from 10 a.m. for the U19 women’s race, and at 3 p.m. for the men’s race.
