What can you see at the exhibition on the Colbert Bridge in ?

1. It rolls on the bridge

Photos, engravings, comic strips, we travel a lot on the Colbert bridge. Inevitably, the Alpine manufactured in Dieppe is featured on the apron. Next to it, a cyclist in leisurely mode crosses the same bridge. We also pass there, under the bridge, and there we find different commercial or pleasure boats, without forgetting some small and large sailboats which offer a postcard vision to the different paintings.

2. The Colbert bridge before

With the documents provided by the old funds of the City of Dieppe, different engravings present the construction of the bridge and what existed before. Rue des Trois-Marmots is now forever under the waters of the channel. Numerous details on its construction with even a few plans and a 19th century engraving show that the work of art was already widely reproduced by the artists of yesteryear.

3. Atmospheres

The mysteries of the Colbert Bridge – Photo LP/Paris Normandie

Many photos are in black and white, giving a very special atmosphere to the bridge and its nearby streets. For certain shots, we could see a first-generation Maigret commissioner appear, looking for the author of a bad deed. The bridge still retains its mysteries in a morning mist. Other shots are brighter and more festive of the place. You can also escape to distant lands by staying on the parapet of the bridge.

4. All the details

Part of the exhibition is devoted to the details of the bridge before its restoration which should be completed if all goes well before the summer of 2025. As the photos were taken before its dismantling on February 8, the Saint Andrew crosses, the crosspieces are sometimes a little rusty. The grating of the bridge deck was chosen to illustrate the metallic world of the structure. Others chose the reflections on the water.

5. Of all colors

The amateur and professional painters who participated in this exhibition had a great time. In a classic version with natural colors, but also in a much more surprising pop art version. there is even a putty version. All these photos are taken from a book called Le Pont Colbert, published in 1,000 copies which were sold very quickly. It is possible that a new edition will be proposed before the bridge is put back in place.
