A Florida court has postponed indefinitely the start of the criminal trial of former US President Donald Trump, accused of making negligent use of classified documents, according to a decision rendered Tuesday.
The trial in this case of the Republican presidential candidate in November was supposed to open on May 20, but the federal judge considered this date untenable due to the number of preliminary requests presented to the court. She has not set a new date.

Indicted in mid-June on 37 counts including “illegal retention of information relating to national security”, “obstruction of justice” and “false testimony”, Donald Trump pleaded not guilty before a federal court in Miami.

The former Republican president is accused of endangering the security of the United States by keeping confidential documents, including military plans and information on nuclear weapons, in a toilet or storage room at his luxury residence in Mar- a-Lago, Florida, instead of handing them over to the National Archives. However, a 1978 law requires every American president to transmit all of his emails, letters and other working documents to the National Archives. Another law, on espionage, prohibits keeping state secrets in unauthorized and unsecured places.
The Republican presidential candidate is currently on trial in New York in another case, that concerning suspicious payments before the 2016 presidential election.
