One of the great new features of the iPad Pro lies in its screen. We were expecting an OLED display, Apple put two! In fact, the brand is introducing Tandem OLED: two superimposed OLED filters for a brightness that can reach 1600 nits. This technology has a name: Ultra Retina XDR. Apple also adds an anti-reflective filter.
Under the hood, there will not be an M3 chip as expected, but a brand new M4 chip.
The M4 can be called a second generation M3 chip since it is based on the same 3nm architecture. However, Apple announces it is 50% more powerful than an M2 chip and above all capable of gaming and managing ray tracing.
This new chip has:
- a specific engine for screen management
- a new 4 + 6 core CPU
- a new GPU
Its NPU (in preparation for two years according to Apple) would be capable of managing 38 billion operations per second. This is Apple’s first concrete announcement on AI.
What a long way we’ve come since the first iPad Pro and its 12.9-inch Retina screen. The tablet launched in 2016 is now in its seventh generation. This version powered by an M2 chip in its 2022 version, reflects Apple’s desire to blur the line between tablet and PC. Will this new iPad Pro (2024) succeed where its predecessors failed? Apple believes in it and announces a tablet 10 times more powerful than the first version of the iPad Pro.
