“Let’s just have a nice, quiet day tomorrow, shall we?” : Geraint Thomas’ special request to the phenomenon Tadej Pogacar at the Giro

This man doesn’t do anything like the others. Besides, can we really consider him human? Once again, Tadej Pogacar surprised everyone. He is having fun like crazy on the roads of the Giro while his opponents are enjoying it. Just ask Geraint Thomas.

Tim Merlier takes the first massive sprint of the Giro: “My most difficult victory”

The two men like each other as much on the bike as off. So, the Welshman made him a little special request for Tuesday. “Alright son, you had fun. Let’s just have a nice quiet day tomorrow, shall we?”he wrote on X with a photo of the two runners.

Tour of Italy – “I followed the wheels”, smiles Pogacar after his surprise attack in the finale

This Monday, the Slovenian was caught 400 meters from the finish. And the two men shot each other in the legs to try to achieve the final victory. The Welshman even took over from his friend and rival in a finale which was made totally electric. “That wasn’t the plan!”admitted Thomas at the end of the race. “I saw him go, I said to myself that maybe I should go too. I wondered if it was real to be out front with him again.”

As at the Giro and the 2021 Tour, Tim Merlier, the opening man, won the first sprint at the Tour of Italy

As expected, the race was ultimately won by a pure spinter with Tim Merlier. But the repeated attacks on the pink jersey give a particular flavor to this edition of the Giro where he seems to feel like a fish in water. “I never really believed that this last initiative could come to fruition”, Pogacar still explained. But why does he do it suddenly? “It’s a bit like a game, like in the friends’ days when we tackled the flats and the small climbs, that suits me very well.”

Like a twelve-year-old kid, Tadej Pogacar has fun on his bike. Except that the Slovenian is now doing it in one of the most prestigious races in the world. And that’s what makes it so special.

It obviously remains to be seen whether he will listen to Geraint Thomas for this fourth stage between Acqui Terme and Andora.
