After a burglary in Estanove, four individuals fleeing in a Peugeot 207 hit the car of an octogenarian near the GGL Stadium. Arrested by the police, two of them were tried on April 29 at the criminal court.

On April 24, in the middle of the afternoon, four individuals fled in a Peugeot 207 after committing a burglary on rue Vivaldi, in the Estanove district, in Montpellier. Speeding at high speed, several police vehicles on their heels, they hit the car of an 86-year-old Montpellier woman, on avenue du Mondial-de-Rugby-2007, near the GGL Stadium.

Two of the four fugitives arrested

Of the four occupants hidden under hoods, three fled by exiting through the windows of the vehicle. However, the police managed to arrest one of them, an Algerian national in an irregular situation, aged 23. The fourth, aged 33, and stuck in the damaged 207, was also apprehended. In the Peugeot, a stocked handgun, a machete, a knife, a screwdriver, cell phones, copies of Rolexes and several pieces of jewelry were discovered.

Referred to the prosecution, the two suspects arrested were tried in immediate appearance on Monday April 29. At the hearing, the youngest assured that he was not behind the burglary plan, that he did not participate in the break-in, and that he did not see in the car, neither machete nor handgun. He blames the driver of the car, who managed to escape.

Already convicted of theft

The president, Alix Fredon, goes through the CV of the young man, who left school in 4e, then went through the Second Chance School, before being incarcerated. His criminal record lists four convictions for theft. Burglaries, drug use: “I changed, I stopped everything!”supports the defendant in the box.

At his side, his eldest has a criminal record with 21 convictions, mainly for aggravated theft. He is still on probation. “I grew up in a home, I experienced delinquency very early”, he explains in court, indicating that he fell into alcohol and cocaine when his mother died two months ago. For his lawyer, Me Laëtitia Leroy-Swed, “There is nothing to establish that the weapons found in the car can be attributed to them.” And on the recidivism of his client, who had been released from detention 24 days earlier: “He had a “dry” exit. We no longer have the means to take care of the defendants. He made several requests for help during these 24 days”. The counsel for the youngest defendant, for his part, pleads acquittal with the benefit of the doubt concerning the weapons discovered in 207.

“The perfect accessory for burglars”

“Everything is not clear about their participation”believes the representative of the public prosecutor, who notes in any case that the car contained “the perfect accessory for burglars.” For the youngest defendant, it requires 14 months in prison, six of which are suspended for two years, and continued detention. And against the oldest, 16 months, eight of which are suspended on probation.

For the first, the court followed the requisitions, adding the ban on possessing a weapon for five years and on coming into contact with the co-perpetrator of the facts. For the second, he increased the sentence to 24 months in prison, twelve of which were suspended, due to his 21 convictions on his criminal record and his recidivism just after leaving prison.
