The match: 3-4

However, the opportunity was great for LOSC. Brest held in check by Nantes (0-0) last Saturday, the northern club had the opportunity to get back on the podium in the event of a victory against Lyon at home, this Monday evening, on behalf of the 32nd day of Ligue 1. However, while trailing 2-0 at the break, then 3-2 in the 85th minute, OL turned everything around to win in added time, a bit like against Brest (4-3), on April 14.

The Mastiffs, who are therefore still two points behind the Finisterians, are not masters of their destiny, that of winning direct qualification for the Champions League (the first 3 places).

However, from the outset, they showed their fangs. Jonathan David pushed Anthony Lopes to relax on his right (5th). But it was Bafodé Diakité who scored with a header, under the gaze of Clinton Mata, following a free kick from Yusuf Yazici (21st). In the process, the Turkish international left his place due to injury to Edon Zhegrova (26th, see below) and the Kosovar international doubled the lead a good ten minutes later (37th).

Amorphous for a long time, the Lyonnais tried to react, but Alexandre Lacazette failed to get his header down (32nd), before coming up a little short in the area (34th). The “General” still had the opportunity to revive his team, only Leny Yoro appeared at his feet (53rd). The start of the second period was therefore in favor of OL, who were rewarded when Saïd Benrahma, served on the left by Lacazette, curled a ball with his right foot which ended in the left corner of Lucas Chevalier (65th). Then Rayan Cherki, who had just replaced Nemanja Matic (67th), crossed too much (71st).

But madness would take over this meeting, with four goals in ten minutes! OL equalized through Malick Fofana, who took Mama Baldé’s cross (82nd). Then Diakité put Lille back in front, again with a header, from a corner from Angel Gomes (85th). Are the Lyonnais stunned? Not even ! It was captain Lacazette who equalized – his 18th goal of the season – from a cross from Ainsley Maitland-Niles (89th), then Baldé took Mata’s cross to offer his team an incredible success!

OL, who will return to the Pierre-Mauroy stadium on May 25, for the final of the Coupe de France against PSG, are clinging to this 7th place in the meantime, which would be profitable for them (Europa Conference League), in the event of defeat against the Parisians that day.

The fact: a ban for Zhegrova

It was the surprise of Paulo Fonseca’s composition. Edon Zhegrova was a substitute, the Lille coach having preferred Yusuf Yazici. But the Turk quickly injured his left adductor and left his place to the Kosovar international (26th). A few moments later, he made his special, but his curling shot was released by Anthony Lopes (27th).

On his second attempt, he chose the closed side and the Lyon goalkeeper was helpless (37th). If Zhegrova had the mask on the bench, it was that of English rapper M Huncho, which he put on to celebrate his sixth achievement in L1. But it was his end to the match that was ruined, since he was, in turn, replaced by Alexsandro, for tactical reasons (75th). Which ultimately did not pay off, since LOSC collapsed at the end of the match. Infuriating…

10

Lyon is the team with the most victories in Ligue 1 in 2024, i.e. 10 (for 1 draw and 4 defeats). No team has won more against teams in the first half of the table than OL (5). (Opta)
