Behind Monaco, Paris, ASVEL, Bourg-en-Bresse, Nanterre and Le Portel, the playoffs are still mathematically possible for five Betclic Elite teams. In order of the ranking, they are Saint-Quentin, Cholet, Le Mans, Dijon and Strasbourg, who will therefore fight for two places.
The first two cities have their destiny in their hands but nothing is done on this 34th day which promises to be intense. All matches will take place this Saturday May 11 at 7:15 p.m.. Here are all the scenarios.
Saint-Quentin in the playoffs if…
– Victory against Strasbourg
– Defeat against Strasbourg + defeat of Cholet + victory of Le Mans against Dijon
– Defeat against Strasbourg by 5 points or less + victory of Le Mans against Dijon + victory of Cholet + victory of Nancy
Cholet in the playoffs if…
– Victory against Chalon-sur-Saône
– Defeat against Chalon-sur-Saône + victory for Saint-Quentin + victory for Le Mans against Dijon
Le Mans in the playoffs if…
– Victory against Dijon + victory for Cholet + victory for Nancy + defeat for Saint-Quentin against Strasbourg by 22 points or less
Dijon in the playoffs if…
– Victory against Le Mans + defeat of Saint-Quentin
– Victory against Le Mans + victory for Saint-Quentin + defeat for Cholet
Strasbourg in the playoffs if…
– Victory against Saint-Quentin + defeat of Cholet
– Victory against Saint-Quentin by 23 points or more + victory for Cholet + victory for Le Mans + victory for Nancy
– Victory against Saint-Quentin by 6 points or more + victory for Cholet + victory for Le Mans + defeat for Nancy
Three other questions at the top of the table
Who on the podium: ASVEL or Bourg-en-Bresse?
Three teams guaranteed to compete in the playoffs will no longer move in the standings. These are Monaco (1st), Paris (2nd) and Nanterre (5th). With the same record of 24 victories and 9 defeats, ASVEL and JL Bourg are neck and neck for the podium with an advantage to the Villeurbannais in the head-to-head matches. If Pierric Poupet’s men obtain a better result in Roanne than those of Frédéric Fauthoux in Limoges, or a similar result, they will finish third.
Will Paris seize the record for victories?
Beyond the race for the playoffs, Paris Basketball can beat the number of consecutive successes in all competitions for a French club, until now held by Limoges in 1989 (24 successes in a row), in the event of a victory at the Portel for the return of Nadir Hifi.
What place for Le Portel?
Qualified since his victory against Le Mans during the 32nd day, Le Portel is currently 6th in the standings before the final day of the regular season. But Bastien Vautier’s teammates could fall to 8th place depending on the results of the other teams.
The ESSM will finish 6th in the event of a victory against Paris… or a defeat of Saint-Quentin (against Strasbourg) and Cholet (against Chalon-sur-Saône). On the other hand, Eric Girard’s team could fall to 7th place in the event of a defeat combined with a victory for Saint-Quentin or Cholet. If the two rivals win and not Le Portel, then it would be 8th place and a duel against Monaco which would loom.
