Laurent Delahousse announced at the end of his news on Saturday May 4 the death of a great journalist from France 2. Both presenter and former editor-in-chief, he was a familiar face in the channel’s newspapers for many years . The journalist left us at the age of 75. After financing his studies in law and political science through various small jobs, Jacques Merlino began his career as a freelancer for publications such as “Le Monde”, “L’Express” and “Elle”, before turn towards the television. In 1977, he joined Antenne 2, now called France 2.
Over the years, he has exercised all professions in audiovisual journalism. After starting as a senior reporter specializing in economics, he was then promoted to presenter of the 11 p.m. news in 1981. Three years later, he became producer and host of “Aujourd’hui la vie”. When this program, which was notably devoted to the most varied subjects of daily life, ended, he returned to the editorial office to head the foreign policy department.
