This evening, TF1 invites its viewers to watch “La Recrue”, a new detective fiction in which Thierry Neuvic and Ethann Isidore play the main roles. Should you watch this new series?

What is it about ?

“At just 18 years old, Kevin Lorin, an orphan from the Parisian suburbs trained by the worst crooks, has become a high-flying scammer, a potential Arsène Lupine. While the police intervene in one of his scams on the coast Basque, he gives up on fleeing and surrenders to everyone’s surprise: he prefers to hang up his gloves before it is too late.

This early retirement will take an unexpected turn when the commissioner recruits him for a very special infiltration into a homicide case. Following this ‘fun’ experience, he will have only one idea in mind: to become a cop! After all, there is no one better than him to ‘rip off’ criminals!

But his thunderous arrival at the police station will not be unanimous: if he can count on the trust of Commissioner Trinquant and the goodwill of his young colleague Sofia for whom he has an undeniable crush, everything will be much more complicated with the Captain Vincent Béraud. This experienced man and exceptional cop is somewhat rigid but always impeccable.

He can’t stand this unpredictable and out of control kid being in his paws all the time! A kid who also rekindles old wounds at home… However, this atypical duo will soon spark, between dangerous chases and perilous infiltrations…”

Season 1 of The recruit begins Monday May 6, from 9:10 p.m. on TF1.

Who is it with?

Thierry Neuvic and Ethann Isidore (seen in Indiana Jones 5 with Harrison Ford) play the main roles in this new detective fiction. They opposite Judith El Zein, Andréa Lovitch, Chloé Chaudoye and Ilian Bergala.

The series was created by Pierre-Yves Mora, Adrien Denis and Marjorie Bosch. Alexandre Coffre and Alexis Charrier shared the production of the six episodes which make up this first salvo.

It’s worth checking out ?

In La Recrue, humor, investigations and emotion go together quite well. TF1 continues in its desire to renew the detective fiction genre and it is clear that the channel is diligently pursuing its efforts to modernize this type of program.

In this sense, choose Ethann Isidore (who revealed to us which cult sitcom character he winks at on screen) to play the role of Kevin was wise. The young man is sunny in each of his scenes and his naturalness is disarming. Thanks to the freshness of his interpretation, he moves easily between the comic register and the dramatic (we can also salute his touching performance at the end of the season).

Opposite him, Thierry Neuvic (who, however, is not his first attempt at slipping into the shoes of a police officer) offers something quite different from usual. The experienced actor is surprising in his humor (the alchemy within the duo works) but also in his sensitivity.

Because yes, even if La Recrue is above all a detective series, the emotion (without falling completely into good feelings… but still a little!) is there, in particular thanks to the difficult personal journeys of Kevin and Vincent. In addition, their thwarted love stories are interesting to follow… On the investigation side, the missions of our tandem are nice and seeing Ethann Isidore chain together the different costumes so that his character goes incognito is quite fun!

Finally, the action of this project takes place in Biarritz and its surroundings. Seeing the ocean, beaches and city architecture on television is a real delight! The natural settings of the series are superb and really stand out from the images of other series.

Our characters carry out their high-risk missions with determination… even if we don’t necessarily believe it all the time. As we said, TF1 is heading in the right direction, progress is there. But some bad habits still die hard…
