Walkis Dragin, previously detained provisionally since November 11, 2021, returned to prison this afternoon in a cell at the Baie-Mahault Penitentiary Center. He was found guilty of murder after three days of hearing.

His regrets, remorse and apologies as well as his arguments developing the thesis of self-defense and the non-will to kill Lenny Théres did not weigh against the requisitions of the general advocate who had requested 25 years of criminal imprisonment.

Certainly the sentence imposed of 20 years is less but it corresponds to the charges brought against an accused who faced the maximum sentence of 30 years. During a shooting on November 9, 2021, he shot his opponent 8 times and hit him 4 times, including a bullet to the heart.

Overwhelming testimonies and expertise

Accusations reinforced by testimonies which damned the condemned, as well as by all the reports developed at the hearing by the director of investigation as well as the forensic doctor or the ballistics expert.

His defense, however, bludgeoned in this sense by insisting on the hypothesis that it would first be the victim who would have started the shooting by shooting 5 times and that his client would only have defended himself by retaliating in the face of the danger that these shots represented.

The 6 popular female jurors constituting the jury, which also included 3 professional magistrates, validated by a minimum majority of 7 votes the guilt of murder and agreed on the sentence of 20 years of criminal imprisonment.

Walkis Dragin has 10 days to appeal.
