Since 2011, Canada has celebrated National Seniors Day on October 1. This date was chosen in 1991 by the United Nations. Néomédia took the opportunity to interview Diane Boyer, president of the Pincourt Golden Age Club (French club); as the Club celebrated its 55th anniversary on September 20.

Diane Boyer is also councilor for district no. 4 in Pincourt. The Pincourt Senior Citizens Club brings together 300 members and Ms. Boyer describes it as very active. You can register from the age of 50.

As Diane Boyer tells us, “ the Club was founded in 1969 by Mrs Chapman. At that time, there were around sixty members, a number which has continued to increase. As of today, 90% of members have already renewed their membership cards », underlines the latter.

Speaking of the benefits for seniors, the president, who has been involved in the Club for 11 years, does not hesitate to say: “ It creates important bonds of friendship between members who meet for other outings; they are also presented with information capsules on various subjects, including the risks of fraud among seniors, for example. One of the primary goals is certainly to get seniors out of isolation. », she concludes.

What other objectives does the Golden Age Club pursue? “ I think the primary goal is to bring seniors together, entertain them and arouse their curiosity through various activities. », adds the president.

To properly celebrate its 55th anniversary, the Club organized a memorable evening at the Pincourt Omnicenter on September 20. The federal MP for Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Peter Schiefke was present at the event and the MP for Vaudreuil in the National Assembly was a partner. The mayors of Pincourt, Claude Comeau, and Terrasse-Vaudreuil, Michel Bourdeau, also participated.

On the program, a show by singer Julie Massicotte, singing Ginette Reno, an activity entitled “Thank you for sharing a slice of life” which brought back several emotions, vintage photos and slides which brought back many memories. A photo booth also made it possible to remember the event with the cameras.

Several meetings are organized every week or monthly by the Pincourt Golden Age Club, recalls Ms. Boyer, for example: barbecue, bingo, card games, draws, bowling, various courses, outings, etc.
