The Algerian Police carried out a major crackdown in a vast money laundering case in the Constantine region where assets worth several billions were seized, including a gold iPhone and another in platinum.

The services fighting organized crime, reporting to the General Directorate of Security (DGSN), carried out a major raid, recovering the value of 5.43 billion dinars in revenue from money laundering.

Two items in particular, seized goods, attract attention: two iPhone type cell phones. The first is gold and the second platinum.

The case takes place as part of an operation carried out by the regional service for combating organized crime in Constantine, under the supervision of the public prosecutor at the criminal, economic and financial center (Algiers).

The value of the seized goods is estimated at more than 543 billion centimes

The operation allowed the Algerian police to dismantle a network of criminals active in the field of money laundering and concealment of criminal proceeds resulting from dubious commercial activities linked to the tobacco trade.

According to a press release from the DGSN, made public on Tuesday April 30, the investigation carried out by the service fighting organized crime in Constantine revealed the involvement of a company specializing in the tobacco trade.

“Its owner used commercial registers registered in the names of people who have no relationship with the company, in return for sums, in order to justify the illicit origin of his funds”we can read in the press release.

Based on the results of the investigation, announced by the public prosecutor’s office of the national financial center, 12 individuals suspected of being involved in this matter were placed in pre-trial detention. The prosecution also ordered the seizure of movable and immovable property and sums in cash and bank accounts.

The seizure operation also affected 12 vehicles as well as precious metals, including gold and platinum. In total, the value of the seized goods exceeds the sum of 5.43 billion dinars.

Among the seized goods, we note the presence of two iPhone cell phones, one made of 24-carat gold, and another made of platinum, a precious metal rarer and therefore more expensive than gold.
