DIRECT. Taxes, rule of law… Michel Barnier expected at the Assembly for his general policy declaration

It is a great classic of the Fifth Republic: the declaration of general policy, an exercise undertaken by the various heads of government when they took office since Michel Debré in 1959. The new Prime Minister, Michel Barnierappointed last September 5, will try it this Tuesday, October 1 in front of a National Assembly which is waiting for him and is urging him to clarify his political line.

Will he raise certain taxes? What decisions will be made during the next budget? Will he make a new immigration law? What will be its position on societal issues such as the end of life?

He should say more, without necessarily answering all the questions. The vagueness could serve his interests as leader of a majority relating to sometimes different demands, this being made up of the presidential camp and the LR party, “under surveillance” of the RN.

We explain to you what this general policy declaration will consist of in this article.
