The Department of Hérault begins a new phase of development on the V70 greenway. 8.5 km long, this cycle path connects Saint-Geniès-des-Mourgues has Boisseronfollowing the old route of a railway line. Used by cyclists and walkers, it constitutes a key stage of the Cycle route n°70a national route linking Palavas to Boisseron.

The project, which will begin in October for a period of three months, consists of beautifying the surroundings of this greenway with the planting of thousands of plants. More than 3,000 young plants, 110 shrubs and 100 trees will be installed along the route, reinforcing the aesthetic and ecological appeal of the site.

A project with multiple challenges

This work is not limited to a simple decorative arrangement. They also aim to meet several objectives, both environmental and practical. The selection of plant species adapted to Mediterranean climatic conditions has been carefully carried out. This new vegetation will enrich the natural setting of the route while creating islands of freshness. These shaded areas will offer walkers and cyclists refreshing breaks, especially in summer, when the heat can become oppressive.

In addition to user comfort, the impact on local biodiversity will be significant. The different species planted will provide habitat for wildlife, encouraging the presence of birds, pollinating insects and other local species. This development project is being carried out in partnership with the Metropolis of which works alongside the Department to develop cycling infrastructure and promote green tourism. The revegetation operations will, however, cause some temporary inconvenience. Caution will be required for cyclists and pedestrians using the road during this period.
