Due to water cuts in the Schœlcher region, two schools and a nursery in the Fond Lahayé district will remain closed this Thursday, May 2. In Lamentin and Saint-Joseph, resource restrictions are also planned until May 5.

“Due to water cuts in the area, the conditions are not met to accommodate students in certain schools and in certain early childhood care facilities”announced the town of Schœlcher in a press release this Thursday.

The establishments concerned are the “Le Vent des ” school, Eustache Bertrand and the “Patita” nursery, located in the Fond Lahayé district.

The Mayor asks parents to make the necessary arrangements.

Odyssi subscribers in Lamentin and Saint-Joseph will also experience water cuts due to of a request to limit the water production of its Durand factory from 28,000 m3 to 25,0000 m3″, “a failure to supply its tanks by the SME” and “a limitation of the production of the Vivé factory to 20,000 m3”.

The precipitation in recent days has been insufficient and cannot make up for the water deficit accumulated over several weeks. The state of heightened drought alert for the department is therefore still in effect and the population is called upon to remain very vigilant regarding their use of water.

A schedule of restrictions has been put in place until Sunday May 5.
