Paris City Hall announced in September 2023 the wish to close the bus station after the Olympic Games. Thus, Bercy station must find a new drop-off point for the approximately 4.7 million annual passengers.
A new project for Bercy. The bus station located next to the Accor Arena is expected to close. Indeed, Paris City Hall had announced its closure for September 2024 in order to regain its initial function: a bus parking lot for tourist coaches.
However, the city of Paris has not found a fallback solution for such a short period of time. The Transport Regulatory Authority (ART) considered that the time limit was insufficient to allow the stakeholders concerned to organize themselves.
Several possible solutions
Nearly 4.7 million passengers used the Bercy-Seine bus station in 2023. FlixBus and BlaBlaBus are the main companies serving this site. The ART, in its advisory role, has defined several criteria for new infrastructure.
The future station must be accessible thanks to a direct connection to the center of the Paris metropolitan area. The services offered must meet international standards (covered, maintained and secure waiting areas). But also, the station must have at least 35 platforms in the short term and 45 in the long term.
Two alternative sites were proposed: the Pershing Porte Maillot bus station and that of Saint-Denis Pleyel. Rosny-Bois-Perrier and the car park on Boulevard de Douaumont were also mentioned, but would require significant development work.
