The new Xiaomi SU7 will be even more practical than we thought

Just launched, the new Xiaomi SU7 still reveals new information about it. The electric sedan can be opened using a bracelet and is equipped with battery pre-conditioning, among other things.

If you know Xiaomi, it’s probably for its smartphones, or perhaps its items such as electric scooters. But in recent months, the Chinese company has also become an automobile manufacturer.

New features

Xiaomi lifted the veil at the very beginning of the year on its first electric car, which takes the name SU7 (not to be pronounced lollipop). The latter is an electric sedan rivaling the Tesla Model 3, of course, but also the BYD Seal or the Xpeng P7.

The least we can say is that it is already getting a lot of attention, even though the first deliveries have only just started. This newcomer is already enjoying great success, driven in particular by its impressive technologies.

Not to mention its technical sheet, which is enough to make some competitors, like the Porsche Taycan, shudder. But that’s not all, because the young Chinese manufacturer, based in Beijing, tells us a little more about its new electric car. The site ItHome relays a question-and-answer session organized between Internet users and a representative of the brand, relating to various technologies of the SU7. And one of the questions particularly interests us.

We learn, in fact, that the electric sedan can be opened with a braceletthanks to technology NFC. The latter is already used by other manufacturers, such as Jaguar or Land Rover and means you do not need to keep the physical key on you. Other brands have chosen to use the Bluetooth of the smartphone, like Tesla or even BMW. There is also technology Ultra Wideband, as on the Volvo EX30. Currently, only the Xiaomi Watch S3 is compatible with this NFC functionality.

However, an OTA (over – the – air) update Remote will support additional devices, although the names have not been announced at this time. We only know that this improvement will be available during the month of May, without a more precise date. We also learn that the new Xiaomi SU7 is also equipped with battery pre-conditioning, which is a very good thing.

A concentrate of technology

This device makes it possible to bring the battery to the right temperature before a charging session, in order to reduce the time spent at the terminal. For the record, the electric sedan has an 800-volt architecture and can recover up to 510 kilometers of autonomy in just 15 minutes. It is equipped with batteries with a capacity of 73.6 to 101 kWh, which allows it to travel up to approximately 710 kilometers according to the European WLTP approval cycle.

Note that the new Xiaomi SU7 can also be associated with the Xiaomi Auto application, which makes it possible to monitor in real time the speed at which it is traveling, among other things. A particularly useful feature when lending the vehicle to another driver. Furthermore, the sedan is also equipped with a functionality similar to that offered to Tesla with its Dog Mode. Concretely, this allows you to leave your pet in the car, with the air conditioning on, for up to six hours.

The manufacturer also specifies that the vehicle goes into degraded mode when the remaining range falls below 50 kilometers. It is then possible to activate a specific mode, which has the effect of limiting the maximum speed to 90 km/h, while it can also be deactivated at any time if necessary. For the moment, we do not yet know if the Xiaomi SU7 will one day be sold in Europe, while demand is so strong that delivery times run for more than eight months. For the record, the car is priced under 30,000 euros in China.
