The Neema school complex, a Protestant approved school, located in the Kalumbi district in the town of Kalemie (Tanganyika) was relocated a few days ago following the floods.
Rainwater invaded classrooms, preventing access to students and their teachers.
The school currently operates in buildings of the Kalemie Pilot University as a tenant.
She rents six rooms there where teachers give lessons to their students.
The Radio Okapi reporter who went there on Saturday, September 28, noted that these rooms are narrow and do not meet modern classroom standards.
Some students indicate that the conditions are not met to allow them to study well and assimilate the lessons taught.
« It’s really cramped, the rooms are small and there are many of us “, testified one of them.
For his part, the prefect of studies at CS Neema, Remy Nkulu, does not have an office and works outside, facing bad weather.
His office only consists of a small table, a chair and a bench for the teachers.
He deplores the poor working conditions:
« I don’t have an office, with the sun and the rain it’s difficult. I walk around with important documents in my bag, at risk of losing them “, he said.
Several other Kalemie schools flooded by the waters of Lake Tanganyika have also been relocated, including the Neema and Fatuma primary schools, and the Lac and Lukenta institutes.
