The first copies of the Rabbit r1 have been delivered to American journalists. The verdict is in: this AI wearable is far from finished, it is missing essential functions and it is unstable.

As a reminder, just like the Humane AI Pin, the R1, sold at $199, is an autonomous AI device with disproportionate ambitions.

Physically, it evokes a actioncam or a Playdate console, compact as can be with a 2.88-inch touch screen, a rotating camera and a scroll wheel. Basically, it’s half the size of a smartphone. It has a screen, microphone, speaker, wheel and camera.

But how is this possible? Simply because the Rabbit r1 is an Android device. Of course, the Rabbit app probably doesn’t offer all the same features as the Rabbit r1.

Rabbit has already reacted by stating that “Rabbit R1 is not an Android app…Rabbit OS and LAM run on the cloud with very customized modifications to the AOSP and lower level firmware. Therefore, a local bootleg APK without the appropriate OS and Cloud endpoints will not be able to access our service. . Rabbit OS is customized for r1 and we do not support third party clients.“.

But then, why use a dedicated device if you can have the same features on your Android smartphone? This is the question we can ask ourselves.
