This Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the Office established for the information mission “on the local role and territorial anchoring of parliamentarians” elected Ms. Cécile Untermaier, MP for Saône-et-Loire, and Ms. Elodie Jacquier-Laforge, MP of Isère and Vice-President of the National Assembly, respectively President and rapporteur of the information mission.

On the proposal of the President of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet at the conference of presidents, the information mission will begin its work very soon to cover subjects such as the place of the deputy in the territories, his role in the authorities and organizations territorial, the role of the substitute, or even the evaluation of public policies at the territorial level.

Other topics may also be discussed. It will be up to the MPs who are members of the office to determine the outlines of the fact-finding mission.

Cécile Untermaier and Elodie Jacquier-Laforge welcome the creation of this mission, in order to best respond to the different ways of being an elected official anchored in one’s territory.

“I think that the accumulation of mandates does not allow each mandate to be best exercised. But this subject allows us to raise the question of the organization of our work in the Assembly and the relationship of parliamentarians with the decentralized State and elected officials: we must give ourselves time to be in our constituencies! » – Elodie Jacquier-Laforge

“The local role of the deputy must be developed, not by a return to the addition of mandates but by sharing knowledge, a rationalized proximity of the national elected official with the territory, its actions and its inhabitants. » – Cécile Untermaier, The Parliament of the Future, 2016
