I need help from your readership. How do each and every one of those who read you manage to live in a world where there are so many stupid, cruel and selfish people?

I am a 65 year old man who lives with reduced mobility. I need a cane to get around. Imagine that over a period of less than a month, I had the misfortune to meet a frankly selfish person and an imbecile doctor.

One day on the bus, I asked a healthy woman if she would give me her seat since she was sitting in a space reserved for people with reduced mobility. Instead of simply giving up her seat at the sight of my cane, she asked me innocently: “Ha! Do you want my place? »

Three weeks ago, during a medical visit to resolve a problem with nits and scabies, I went to a doctor. And to me, who has the face of a Mr. Clean, she asked without blushing: “Are the nits in your hair?” »

These two events, experienced in quick succession, took me back a few years when I met a federal civil servant to apply for a surviving spouse’s allowance and the first intelligent question she asked me was: “Where is your spouse? »

I could write a 700 page book with examples like this. I’m more and more desperate to finally meet normal people. It is a fact that I have met some intelligent people over the years, but the quantity is so much less than the quantity of idiots encountered that it is striking. This is why I am wondering if it is me who is too demanding? To come to the conclusion that it is becoming more and more difficult to live in such a world!

I dare say “too demanding perhaps?” » Why not show a little more leniency in the future by asking yourself whether the person who responds to you in a way that is too strange for your liking is not either ignorant of the blunder they are making, or a little bit out of her pomp because your question puts her in a certain state of stress?
