Cac 40: Inflation in the euro zone is hardly surprising, the CAC 40 is at a standstill

(BFM Bourse) – The Parisian index is close to balance at mid-session this Wednesday, weighed down in particular by Stellantis. Investors are digesting the latest statistics in the euro zone.

On the eve of a break in the middle of the week, the Paris Stock Exchange is not overflowing with energy. The CAC 40 fell by 0.01% at mid-session on Tuesday April 30 to 8,064.31 points.

Investors are analyzing several economic statistics in the euro zone, notably inflation for the month of April. In harmonized data, to facilitate comparisons between countries, prices increased by 2.4% year-on-year in the fourth month of the year, stable compared to the previous month and in line with expectations.

Stellantis, for once, disappoints

“Higher-than-expected first-quarter GDP data released today means the eurozone has emerged from recession, and both core and services inflation fell in April, but this does not “will not prevent the European Central Bank from starting its monetary policy easing cycle in June”, judges Capital Economics.

In terms of business publications, automobiles are not performing well. Stellantis suffered the biggest drop in the CAC 40, dropping 3% due to revenues below expectations. Mercedes and Volkswagen dropped 4.6% and 2.4% respectively in Frankfurt, penalized by disappointing profitability in the first quarter.

Air France-KLM fell by 3.2% weighed down by results below expectations, due in particular to maintenance concerns at KLM. VusionGroup (formerly SES imagotag) jumped 13.5% after announcing an amendment to its contract with the American giant Walmart, representing order intake of 1 billion euros.

On other markets, the euro is stable against the dollar at $1.072. Oil is rising a little. The July contract on North Sea Brent gained 0.5% to $87.59 per barrel, while the June contract on WTI listed in New York advanced 0.4% to $82.99 per barrel.
