The Million Dollar Hotel – Wim Wenders

Summary : In Los Angeles, at the Million Dollar Hotel, which houses many of the city’s underprivileged and neglected people, Tom Tom (Jeremy Davies), a psychologically fragile young man, throws himself from the roof.

Critical : The film, in a long flashback, will recount the days preceding the Tom Tom tragedy. A similar event happened shortly before: a certain Izzi (Tim Roth) had also mysteriously fallen from the roof. As a result, the police sent an FBI special agent, Skinner (Mel Gibson), a disabled cop, his neck caught in a steel structure and with brutal methods. He will discover the strange and original population who live in the hotel: Dixie (Peter Stormare), a false double of John Lennon who was allegedly robbed by the Beatles; Eloise (Mila Jovovich), a fierce young woman who devours books without seeing Tom Tom’s love for her; Hollow (Jon Hassell), a trumpeter who doesn’t leave his room; or a native American nicknamed Geronimo (Jimmy Smits), who thinks he is an Indian chief….

The investigation into Izzi’s death will shed light on this sort of urban miracle court where the delusions of its strange tenants are tangled.

Based on a scenario taken from a story imagined by Bono, the singer of the group U2, Wim Wenders directed here a strange, uneven and a little murky film, but also dotted with astonishing and poetic scenes, totally setting this work apart, which seems on acid , from the classic detective film.

An almost nightmarish film, difficult to access, but which develops a fantastic atmosphere, and does not lack real poetry.
