Students in second grade at the Épinay-sur-Seine high school (Seine-Saint-Denis) communicate to their teacher the time they spend on average per day in front of screens and place their cell phones in a box for the duration of the lesson . To make their students responsible, two teachers have put in place strict rules. Between 4 and 6 hours of telephone time per day, adolescents must come an extra hour to high school for a sports activity or academic support. Between 6 and 8 a.m., they have to come for two more hours. Beyond 8 hours of screen time per day, students get 3 additional hours.

The initiative is rather well accepted by young high school students. “It helps me, because on my own, I wouldn’t have done it”, says a student.
