Eight projects are in the running for the national competition for young architects “La Charrette d’or”, indicated Tuesday in a press release, the Industrial Group of Cements of Algeria (GICA) which supports this competition.
The finalists of this competition, which focuses on the theme “Rethinking common spaces in housing cities”, come from the wilayas of Algiers, Oran, Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou and Bechar, said the same Source.
The awards ceremony will be held on the occasion of the International Building, Construction Materials and Public Works Exhibition (Batimatec), scheduled for May 5 to 9, at the Exhibition Center (Pins maritimes-Algiers).
The young participants in the Competition will propose “innovative and sustainable” solutions to transform the poorly or underused outdoor spaces of housing estates in Algeria into places of life and conviviality, promoting well-being and social bonds. in collective housing, it is emphasized in the press release.
“In their projects, these candidates will have the task of rethinking the terraces, the hearts of the block and the immediate peripheral spaces into convivial spaces, integrating ecological, aesthetic and social considerations, while respecting the cultural and environmental context of the cities concerned,” explains the same Source.
From the same perspective, projects must offer programs of activities reinforcing the cultural identity of Algeria, explains the urban architect and initiator of the “La Charrette d’or” competition, Akli Amrouche, quoted in the press release.
It is also about integrating ecological, aesthetic and social considerations, while respecting the cultural and environmental context of the cities concerned.
Initiated in 2007, the Charrette d’or gives the chance to young Algerian architects, “to express their talent and their ability to take on important challenges, in order to find solutions to problems linked to the living environment of citizens”, according to the organizers.
