“I’ll ask whatever questions I want!” : the tone rises between Apolline de Malherbe and Louis Boyard

This Tuesday, April 30 in the morning, Louis Boyard was a guest on the political show Face to face, presented by Apolline de Malherbe on BFMTV. The deputy for La France insoumise was notably questioned about the movement to block Sciences Po Paris by students to support Palestine against Israel. Supporting this demonstration which lasted more than 24 hours, from April 26, the 23-year-old politician was quickly questioned about the tweet posted by Iranian Ayatollah Khamenei in which the latter encourages blockades of pro-Palestinians in international universities, including those in France, using this news to spread anti-Israel propaganda.

Reporting the reaction of the Iranian supreme leader, Apolline de Malherbe asked her guest “how [il] takes” the fact of having been “taken as a model” by such a character. Louis Boyard then took the example of the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, who “supports the Israeli government”asking the journalist if she counted “grab the jacket Gabriel Attal to ask him if he shared the opinions of his 60-year-old counterpart. Firmly, the young politician assured that he had no sympathy for Khamenei or for the Prime Minister of Hungary, before putting the TV presenter back in place: “That’s not the question!” “Yes, that’s my question,” replied Apolline de Malherbe to refocus the interview.

Louis Boyard therefore agreed to give his point of view on this thorny geopolitical question, since the beginning of its media coverage: “In October, we were saying: ‘No, this is not the time to talk about what is happening in Gaza, first we must criticize the press release from La France insoumise’. In the months that followed, we said: ‘No, this is not the time to talk about what is happening in Gaza, first, we need to know if there is the right to hold demonstrations or not’. […] When will we be allowed to talk about it?”

Visibly annoyed, the journalist declared “let it speak for itself”, before telling him, a little later during the interview: “I’ll ask you my question again, Louis Boyard, because you didn’t answer it.” Refocusing the interview on Khamenei’s political recovery, Apolline de Malherbe somewhat turned the spotlight on her guest, deciding not to answer it, considering the “reasoning” of his interlocutor “totally absurd”. “Look, I’m not in custody, okay? […] What are you trying to make me say?” he blurted out, exasperated. “You are here to answer my questions. […] I will ask the questions I want [de poser]”, the journalist said during this tense exchange.
