POLICY – “Addiction to screens among children is a potential health and educational disaster”. Gabriel Attal used strong words this Tuesday, April 30 at the National Assembly, a few hours after submitting an edifying report to Emmanuel Macron on the subject.

This recommends in particular the banning of smartphones for the youngest and their supervision for adolescents.

The Prime Minister also did not hesitate to highlight the government’s responsibility, affirming that National Education must “sweep in front of your door” on the issue of screen use.

About this question, “everyone must clean up their own doors, including the State and National Education and the local authorities involved in National Education”declared the head of government.

“It is true that in a certain number of establishments and communities, textbooks have been replaced by screens”continued Gabriel Attal. “I am not a technophobe who believes that all screens should be banned. There may be an educational aim and an educational interest. »

“But the screen for the screen’s sake has no interest, it can be dangerous and therefore we will also have to rethink a certain number of policies which are currently being implemented in our public services, particularly in Education”he added.

Recommendations to combat “the hyperconnection suffered” children

In the report submitted this Tuesday to the Head of State, the commission of experts responsible for working on the issue of screens by the executive issued a series of recommendations to fight against “the hyperconnection suffered” children.

The commission, among other things, recommends against individual equipment in elementary schools and calls for supervision of the deployment of educational tools.

Experts also want a ban on computers and televisions in nurseries and nursery classes and call for “reinforced actions” with childminders.

These measures appear in a bill proposed by two LR deputies, Annie Genevard and Antoine Vermorel-Marques, a parliamentary initiative to which Gabriel Attal gave his support on Tuesday, indicating that he would like this PPL “can be taken up and adopted. »
