Let’s start with the beginning. Gilles Simon met Carine Lauret in 2005, when he had been a professional tennis player for three years. The young woman then worked in the communications department of the construction company Bouygues. Very quickly, she decided to leave everything behind to follow her husband to the four corners of the world, in the most exclusive tournaments on the circuit. The dream life ? At first, yes. But, the more time passed, the less she tolerated. She spoke on this subject in L’Équipe in 2015. “At the beginning, I really liked it. Gilles allowed me to discover the world. Beautiful places, beautiful hotels, life without constraints, without cooking, without cleaning”she said.

Before adding: “In fact, little by little, Gilles uprooted me. I cut ties with the people I loved. And I lost my personality. Even my mother introduced me by saying: ‘She’s the woman by Gilles Simon.’ Sometimes, my loved ones called me just to ask me about Gilles. I didn’t really exist anymore. I got tired of it“. She therefore returned to a normal life, to resume work in Paris. A difficult period: “I no longer liked being the wife of […] I had an overdose from my boyfriend when I was no longer seeing him! It’s very difficult to find your place. On the one hand, I feel boundless pride for him. On the other hand, I tell myself that I’m shit, that I’m worthless.”.
“I can’t live without him.”
Gilles Simon and Carine Lauret have two children. The eldest, Timothée, was born in 2010, right during the US Open. The youngest, Valentin, was born three years later. The children were a lifesaver for the couple, according to the mother: “Fortunately, with the children, I always come back, because I am busy with something else. Besides, when he is bad, I try to involve him with the children, because they are the only ones who can make us forget the tennis Since then, I’m no longer the green plant waiting for her boyfriend. […] I went from ‘wife of…’ to ‘mom of…'”. In the same interview, she insisted on the love she has for the ex-tennis player. “I can’t live without him.”, she said. During her husband’s last seasons, she could be seen with her children in the stands to encourage Gilles Simon.

She has four nannies per child, we don’t live in the same world.”. Throughout his career, Gilles Simon won 14 trophies. His best ATP ranking? Sixth at the start of 2009. A great career which allowed him to win more than 16 million dollars.
