MUNICH — Bayern Munich star Harry Kane is out with an apparent left ankle injury during Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

The England captain clutched his ankle and appeared to be in pain after a tussle for the ball with Leverkusen’s Amine Adli. He replaced Thomas Müller in the 86th minute and limped off the field.

“When Harry has to leave the field, then there is something. It doesn’t look good,” Bayern sporting director Max Eberl told Sky.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen was more optimistic shortly afterwards.

“He took a hit, but from what I’ve heard from the doctors, it’s nothing too serious,” Dreesen said.

Kane was due to have an ankle check on Sunday. Bayern face Aston Villa on Wednesday in the Champions League.

Kane failed to score against Leverkusen, but has still been instrumental in Bayern’s attack this season. The 31-year-old striker scored five goals and set up six more in the first four league matches, while he scored four goals in the opening 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

He also scored in Bayern’s opening match in the German Cup.
