The back of trucks with giant screens

A solution for road safety

Driving behind a tractor-trailer on a single-lane road can be a frustrating and sometimes dangerous experience, particularly because of the difficulty in passing safely. Indeed, once behind the truck, you cannot see what is happening in front, particularly vehicles coming in the opposite direction. Any overtaking therefore becomes particularly dangerous. This is also one of the reasons why you should stay behind a truck for as little time as possible. To remedy this, Samsung is offering an innovation that could make these situations much less dangerous, with in-house or even truck technology.

The concept is based on a truck equipped with a wireless camera placed at the front, connected to a video wall made up of four screens placed at the rear. This setup allows following drivers to see what is happening in front of the truck, including at night, significantly improving their ability to make informed decisions when considering overtaking.

This system also offers a significant advantage by reducing the risk of accidents caused by sudden braking or unexpected animals crossing the road.

Samsung led the development of this prototype by providing large format display samples and conducted a test with a local B2B customer to refine the technology.

The initiative not only aims to improve the quality of life through technology, but also to save lives in a more ambitious way.

For now, the prototype truck is no longer in operation, but Samsung has confirmed the effectiveness of the technology and its potential to save lives. The company plans to carry out the necessary tests to comply with national standards and obtain the required authorizations. To do this, the manufacturer works closely with NGOs dedicated to safe driving as well as with the government.

This innovation could mark a turning point in road safety, offering a concrete solution to the challenges posed by large vehicles on the roads. It is also an example of how technology can be put to the service of the community, with the potential to radically transform our roads into safer spaces for all.

In the meantime, if we talk about it today, the prototype is already ten years old and has not been followed up yet. So, the future is not always tomorrow.
