The photo we have selected was taken this Thursday, September 26, 2024. We see the Grand Ducal family of Luxembourg, almost complete, surrounding Pope Francis for a souvenir photo.
There are Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa there. Their five children, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Princes Félix, Louis and Sébastien, and Princess Alexandra. Their two daughters-in-law, Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie and Princess Claire, and their son-in-law, Nicolas Bagory.

Seven of the grand ducal couple’s eight grandchildren are also there, the youngest in the arms of their parents. That is, Princes Charles and François (the sons of Guillaume and Stéphanie), Gabriel and Noah (those of Louis and his ex-wife Tessy Antony), Princess Amalia and Princes Liam and Balthazar (the children of Félix and Claire). Just missing the very latest addition to the family, Princess Victoire, the daughter of Alexandra and Nicolas, aged only 4 months.
Why did we choose this photo?
The scene takes place at the Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg where the sovereign pontiff, on a one-day visit to the Grand Duchy, was received by the monarch and his wife. A historic moment that they wanted to share with their entire family.
The opportunity to see the face of little prince Balthazar, 8 months, for the first time. Or to note that Prince Charles, second in the order of succession to the Luxembourg throne after his father, was somewhat dissipated during this shooting.

Princess Amalia had already met Pope Francis at just 20 months old
Supervising Pope Francis, Princess Amalia, 10 years old, and Prince Liam, 7 and a half years old, are very serious. For the eldest of Félix and Claire, as for her cousins Princes Gabriel and Noah, this papal meeting was not the first. We remember the little girl’s presence at the Vatican on March 21, 2016, with the Grand Ducal family when she was only 20 months old.
