Dozens of people were evacuated and 150 firefighters were deployed in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie district following a fire in a shelter for women in difficulty.

A fire broke out on Monday in an accommodation resource for women in difficulty located on rue de Lanaudière, in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie district, in Montreal.
The fire led to the evacuation of dozens of people and the deployment of 150 firefighters to fight the flames. Only one firefighter suffered minor lower body injuries.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.

The fire has been brought under control, but its origin remains unknown at this time.
The 37 evacuees were taken to a nearby church. They must be temporarily housed in hotels with the help of the Red Cross before being relocated elsewhere.
The general director of the shelter, named Mireille, says she is in contact with partner organizations – including health organizations – in order to find a longer-term solution.
According to her, few women will be able to be accommodated with members of their family, because most simply do not have no network
.
Several women are sad. All their things are there. It’s not a lot of things
she indicates, ensuring however that they will remain united.
Mireille also claims to have contacted the borough and the Montreal Municipal Housing Office, which subsidizes the apartments.
