Doctor Jingjing Zhu from UCLouvain was awarded the Baillet Latour Biomedical prize on Monday, and the million euros that goes with it, for her research on immunotherapy and cancer. It was Queen Mathilde who presented him with the award at the Palace of the Academies in Brussels.

The Baillet Latour Fund supports the careers of young researchers in biomedical sciences in Belgium through its prize. The winner therefore obtains one million euros in research funding to be used within five years.

This year, the lucky winner is Jingjing Zhu. Holder of a doctorate in human genetics from KU Leuven, she is currently the head of a research group in the immunity and cancer department of the de Duve institute.

Jingjing Zhu, who was chosen by an international jury from 19 applications, describes it as “a great honor” to receive this prize. “This inspires me to strive for excellence in my field. This research offers light in cancer research. We bring hope to patients who are waiting for treatment,” she said. declared.

Queen Mathilde, for her part, highlighted the excellence of the level of medicine and research in Belgium. “The objectives are far from being achieved,” she lamented. “This annual support from the Baillet Latour Fund opens new perspectives.”
