A day in Carcassonne to discover the job of Home Help

Who better to talk about a profession than those who practice it? This is certainly the reflection made by the organizers of the day which was held in the premises of Kappa’R, in Carcassonne, dedicated to the activity of Home help. Around fifty people, women but also a few men, came to learn more about this crucial function for the well-being, and often the retention in their homes, of many seniors. This is how a volunteer home help explained to visitors her daily professional life, and this job that she loves.

For this meeting, Carcassonne Agglo joined forces with France Travail and Cap Emploi. The first, represented by deputy director Linda Auteau, highlighted the possibility offered to future Home Helpers to benefit from a role-playing period, allowing them to follow a professional for several days and to better understand the realities of this function. Those responsible did not fail to draw up the “list of advantages” of this activity, whether it is the sectorization limiting the distance of journeys, the payment of the latter, the bonuses (including the Ségur bonus) or the participation in the financing of the Mutual.

We will have understood: the objective was also to seduce the participants and convince them to opt for this professional orientation, while this profession belongs to these sectors of activity which still sometimes struggle to recruit. The challenge is all the more real in a region where the aging of the population will require increasing care for our seniors. In any case, the employer space set up that day by Carcassonne Agglo saw a nice queue form, proof of the visitors’ interest. More generally, they were able to ask the questions that one might have in mind with regard to any little-known profession: training, type of tasks carried out, childcare, etc. Currently, 180 women and men are all acting days on the territory of Carcassonne Agglo in order to help the elderly or people with disabilities.
