Nethanyou, Trump and Bouchez on scorched earth

Before our amazed eyes… To keep it or to have it, three strategies of the new politician regarding power.

Belgian

In Lebanon, the Hezbollah terrorist movement appeared hesitant to advance into all-out war with Israel. But Benjamin Netanyahu needs war. It protects him from corruption charges brought against him. The Israeli Prime Minister probably authorized the remote explosion of Hezbollah’s pagers and walkie-talkies. If not respect, his stubbornness could arouse some consideration in some. They could hail a “stroke of genius”…

In the United States, Donald Trump kept two trump cards up his sleeve. Of the three issues that will make the election – immigration, economy and abortion – only the last one was unfavorable to him. But now inflation is finally showing signs of running out of steam. The billionaire needs economic slump to present himself as the savior of a drifting American dream. And get elected to ward off the legal proceedings that will one day land him, too, in prison. Trump ordered his troops to orchestrate a shutdown, a temporary government bankruptcy before the election. Whatever the devastation caused, his perseverance can inspire a certain admiration. And why not one or the other serious institutional blockage. Or the taking hostage of the rights of certain categories of the population. Random, women.

Resistant to facts, impervious to evidence… In short, admirable

In Belgium, no one is threatened with prison. A court has ruled: in Mons, Julie Taton will not be a candidate on the MR lists for the municipal elections. Apparently tired of this failed transfer, the MP seems determined to stop the legal costs. This temperance can command admiration. But let’s be on the safe side, Ms. Taton’s career options remain open and “My better” was not worth a worst-case policy.

Although… Georges-Louis Bouchez does not budge and believes that this judicial decision “illustrates a socialist lead and a confiscation of democracy”. Understand a Wallonia under the orders of the PS, right down to its judicial and police components. In his story of reconquest, the president of the MR needs strong scenes of cultural war. Liberated by the happy hand of liberalism, Mons (then Charleroi, then Namur, then Liège) will breathe all the easier as the socialist embrace was not stifling.

Can his obstinacy be praised? Question outdated. She will be. Mons is neither the Middle East nor the United States. But it is just as exposed to this new ethic of the strong man, stubborn, persevering, disruptive, irredentist, resistant to facts and impervious to evidence which has imposed itself among the codes accepted in the arsenal of electoral strategy. Governing also meant ensuring that the damage caused in the struggle for power remained repairable once the battle was over. From now on, the election is the epic theater of a headlong flight with no return on a scorched earth. It’s sort of fascinating. It’s certainly dangerous.
