Saturday forecast: A warm day

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – After a couple windy days, the winds will not be a factor this weekend. At most gusts around 20 mph are expected on both days with sustained winds around 10 mph. Highs will be about 10° above average as well. With the dry conditions likely continuing this weekend, there will be a chance for rain Monday (afternoon) into Monday night.

Taking Action:

  1. A few sprinkles can’t be ruled out in north-central KS Saturday morning however it won’t amount to much if anything does develop.
  2. Rain is being monitored for Monday into Monday night. Lightning would be the only hazard with a low risk for t-storms…for most areas it would just be rain.
  3. A mid-week cold front is being monitored as to how far south the cooler air will get. It’s mainly going to bring highs more seasonal especially for Wednesday and Thursday but there’s a very low chance of temperatures in the 30s for Thursday morning. As of now the risk for frost is extremely low but something we’ll continue to monitor.

A storm system in the desert southwest will continue to remain stationary through the weekend before heading into the central plains Sunday night into the start of the work week. Confidence is medium on the higher rainfall totals of 0.25″-0.40″ near Manhattan and areas out toward central KS but the eastern part of the viewing area will likely remain in the 0.10″-0.25″ as the rain will become more spotty and lighter during the Monday afternoon/Monday night timeframe. This will not be a drought buster or help in the fire danger weather if those type of conditions return but at least it’ll be something.

Normal High: 68/Normal Low: 44(WIBW)

Today: Decreasing Clouds. Highs in the mid 70s to around 80°. Winds S 5-15 mph.

Tonight: Clear. Lows in the mid 40s to low 50s. South wind around 5 mph.

Tomorrow: Sunny. Highs in the upper 70s-low 80s. Winds S 5-15 mph.

Monday will keep a low chance of rain in the morning mainly in north-central KS but most of the rain will start to overspread the area after 12pm. This means most areas should get back in the 70s for highs and for most areas mid-upper 70s….upper 60s-low 70s out toward central KS where rain will move in earlier in the day.

The rain will wind down Monday night leading to dry conditions the rest of the week with highs staying warm Tuesday but cooling down with a cold front pushing through during the day Wednesday so that will be something to monitor on what the temperature trends will be like.

A way too early look at Halloween and will likely change: There may be some leftover rain showers in the morning from the 30th but likely dry by the afternoon/evening. Temperatures at 7pm could range from upper 40s in north-central KS to low 60s near I-35.
