The investigation into the murder of two Ukrainian nationals by a Russian in Germany has not yet confirmed whether the attack has a link to the war in Ukraine.
Two Ukrainians aged 23 and 36 were fatally attacked with a knife this Saturday April 27 in Murnau, Germany. According to the German media including ARD, the attacker, a 57-year-old man, is a Russian national who was arrested by the police.
The 36-year-old victim died on the spot while the second succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba revealed that the two victims were Ukrainian soldiers who were in Germany undergoing medical rehabilitation. The suspect was taken into custody and presented to a judge.
A link with the war in Ukraine?
Although the investigation is ongoing, it is still impossible to confirm whether the attack has a link to the war in Ukraine. “So far we have no convincing indication that this is, so to speak, a reflection of the dispute between Russia and Ukraine,” said Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann. According to reports, the three men consumed a large quantity of alcohol and were previously seen together.
