This Sunday was exceptionally rainy in and throughout the Lyon region. which required the intervention of the Rhône brigade numerous times.

It’s a Sunday that should go down in the meteorological history books for the entire Lyon region. The fell almost continuously from 6 a.m. Sunday until the dead of night Monday. Exceptional rainfall which caused significant flooding, particularly in the south of Lyon.

Never seen before in Lyon

On the Lyon- station, 96 mm of rain fell between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Sunday, more than the average for the month of April, explains Guillaume Séchet on his social networks. “Above all, it is the wettest day ever observed in April at this century-old station.“continues the meteorologist.

Weather conditions which required numerous interventions by firefighters throughout the day on Sunday. In total, 104 interventions by firefighters took place this Sunday, in particular for flooding of cellars and parking lots but especially for falling trees or landslides throughout the Rhône department. Interventions which ended around midnight Sunday evening. No injuries were reported.

The Rhône on yellow alert

Although the rain has eased in recent hours, the weather is expected to remain humid for a good part of the week in Lyon. With the soil now saturated with water, the new rains expected until Sunday throughout the city will need to be monitored. Météo has classified the Rhône department on yellow alert for rain-flooding and flooding for Monday.
