Sunday April 28, 2024, at 10 a.m., the National Day of Remembrance of the Victims and Heroes of the Deportation took place at Place de la Deportation, rue Larcher in the presence of political figures, military figures, municipal representatives, standard bearers and the philharmonic fanfare from Bayeux (Calvados).

The ceremony began with the national anthem then Gabriel, a student at the Jeanne-d’Arc high school, recalled the poem written by Louis Aragon (1897-1982) inscribed on the deportees’ monument. Wreaths were then placed at the foot of the building by the personalities.

“Our fight is that of freedom and peace”

A vibrant tribute was read by Yvonne Lebrun-Busquet, president of the Association of interned deportees and missing families of Calvados. “Let us remain mobilized against the fanatic, against the resurgence of ideologies of hatred and exclusion…. » and continued in a lively, emotional moment: ” Never again. Our fight is that of freedom and peace. »

The president gave way to Patrick Crevel, municipal councilor, who performed the song by Jean Ferrat Night and Fog in memory of the victims of the Nazi camps.

A mass of remembrance, celebrated at the cathedral by the Bishop of Bayeux-Lisieux, Mgr Jacques Habert, concluded this ceremony.
