“Very encouraging” progress in the face of cancer

The press release further announced that King Charles III will receive Emperor Naruhito of Japan and his wife Masako at Buckingham, for a state visit next June. Before that, he is expected Tuesday April 30 in a cancer center.

Buckingham Palace announced at the end of February that the king was suffering from cancer. Since then, his doctors have ruled “the progress made so far is very encouraging” and remain “optimistic” as for his ongoing recovery, added a spokesperson for the royal family.

His public appearances will be decided on a case-by-case basis and will follow the recommendations of his doctors, continues Buckingham’s spokesperson, but the sovereign will not follow a “complete summer program”.

Public appearances canceled since February

Since the announcement of his cancer at the beginning of February, the British sovereign had canceled all his official public commitments, while continuing to fulfill certain official functions or to honor certain appointments in small groups, like his weekly meetings with the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

His last public appearance dates back to March 31, after attending the traditional Easter religious service, the king enjoyed a walkabout, exchanging handshakes and pleasantries with the public who were waiting in front of Saint-George Chapel in Windsor, west of London.

On March 22, it was his daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, who revealed that she had cancer, without specifying its nature. No news has filtered out regarding his state of health.
